The Tequila fish would have long since disappeared from the face of the earth were it not for animal keepers and conservation breeding in zoos and aquariums, amongst others.

Currently, the media has taken a great interest in this species. However, this shows that zoological institutions often take care of species long before they become interesting to the public eye. Chester Zoo, which is also mentioned in the video, is part of the reason for the current media interest in the species in the UK.
