Spanish ribbed newts, called gallipatos in Spain, are the only newts that live in Valencia. The local Oceanogràfic València is trying to save the species from extinction.

Reintroductions like this one show, once again, that modern zoos and aquariums do not only care for the more popular species. Well-known species are great attractions that make it possible for people to become at all involved with the lesser-known species, since most of the time they only become acquainted with the species on site.
