Note: Modern zoos and aquariums are often the only chance of survival for the endangered loggerhead sea turtles. In many places, experts save them, take care of them, and release them back into the wild if possible or, if a release would kill the animals, keep them under their care. Turtle Frederica is one of these long-term patients. She lives in Loro Parque in Tenerife – seen from Texas – on the other side of the great pond:
