The fifth oldest zoo in the world is closing its site in Bristol after 186 years, only to reopen in Gloucestershire, almost 60 kilometres away.
Note: A zoo that closes and reopens in another location? In early zoo history this was not uncommon – but after almost 200 years and the present time, such a relocation is quite exceptional. However, many zoological institutions, even long-established ones, have changed their location in the past. Yet this was much easier to do in the past because the facilities were less complex than they are nowadays.
